carriageway¶
contiguous area of paved roadway designed for the use of vehicles along a road segment
Clause: 3.3.1.5
Note 1 to entry: A carriageway is comprised of one or more traffic lanes [i.e. the usable width] and could include shoulders and lay-bys.
Note 2 to entry: Carriageways are separated by physical traffic separators.
Note 3 to entry: When looking at a cross-section of the road reservation, the roadway consists of all of the carriageways.
History note: 2025: Revised to add "paved" and "designed for the use of vehicles".
