While the definition for ITS station unit in ISO 21217:2020 refers to an implementation, the full text interchangeably describes it as an implementation or a physical instantiation, but does not define those terms explicitly.
History note: 2025: The original definition resulted in confusion as to whether it was intended to reference merely an implementation, which is an instance of a realization (e.g., something with a model number) or an instance of an implementation (e.g., something that would have a serial number). Added Note 1 to entry.
