Note 1 to entry: The "dual carriageway" term can be used to describe a road, road section, road link, or road segment.
Note 2 to entry: The two carriageways are typically designed for travel in opposite directions.
History note: 2025: Revised to change term to "dual carriageway" rather than "dual carriageway road segment" to broaden its use and revised definition and note 1 to entry accordingly. Removed admitted term "divided highway" and associated note to entry.
