ITS roadside equipment that perform ITS services by exchanging electronic messages with nearby connected vehicles and/or personal systems via short-range wireless technologies

Note 1 to entry: Connected roadside equipment typically provides ITS-related functionality but the term includes roadside equipment that only provide the ITS service of routing for short-range wireless technologies.
Note 2 to entry: The term "connected vehicle roadside equipment" is used within the current version of the Architecture Reference for Cooperative and Intelligent Transportation (ARC-IT; see Reference [25]).
History note: 2025: Revised to 1. Revised term from connected roadside equipment to connected vehicle roadside equipment, 2. Replace "ITS connected roadside equipment" and "RSE" with "CV-RSE", and 3. Change reference to "vehicle systems" to "connected vehicles".
